Director of Development

The Director of Development reports to and works in partnership with the Executive Director to develop and execute the overall funding plan for the Organization. The Director works closely with the Board and the Development Committee in administering WLP's development plan. The Director manages the Development Department and development consultants who support the funding objectives of the organization. Current fundraising activities include grants, annual appeals, two signature card campaigns, a Spring and Fall event, and major gifts to support an annual operating budget of approximately $2 million.

The Director is an experienced, results-oriented development professional committed to the mission of the organization. The Director of Development will invest 40 percent of his/her time managing and mentoring staff; 45 percent managing donor relationships and new opportunities; 7.5 percent event oversight; and 7.5 percent direct service.

Responsibilities include:

Fundraising Oversight:

*Develop and implement fundraising strategies and manage annual fundraising plan to retain and expand strong financial base by securing diverse funding entities;
*Work in partnership with Executive Director, COO and Board in setting and meeting fundraising goals;
*Work in partnership with Executive Director, Board Members, volunteers, donors and supporters in developing new solicitation and giving strategies;
*Manage and mentor development staff of 3.5; work with staff to remain focused and energized; prioritize staff workload among competing demands;
*Oversees all grant activities and works with staff to build strategic foundation and community relationships;
*Strengthen Major Gifts Program and initiate Planned Giving Program;
*Works in partnership with team to develop and execute a Capital Campaign;
*Regularly review development systems to ensure that fundraising activities are run efficiently and are cost effective ;
*Ensure donor and fundraising activities data is accurate, up-to-date, and accessible;
*Oversee day-to-day operations of the Development Department

Fiscal Oversight:

*Participate in development and monitoring of annual budget
*Manage the Development Annual budget
* Review monthly operational budget reports

Work with Senior Management Team:

*Work with Senior Management Team to establish short-term and yearly organizational goals and work plans
*Assist Executive Director with strategic planning and implementation of strategic vision

Direct Service

Direct Service is a key component of the work experience at the Women's Lunch Place and the Development staff is required to work a minimum of one day per month, plus one Saturday per quarter in addition to some major holidays at the Shelter.

Qualifications

The WLP seeks a seasoned, organized, resourceful fundraiser with a track record of success. S/he will be familiar with all aspects of development and will prioritize multiple projects at the same time. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary and the ability to identify, solicit and secure support from individuals, foundations, and corporations is required. Minimum of seven years fundraising and supervisory experience. Major gifts and planned giving experience a plus. Must be flexible (some nights and weekends required). Must be willing to work in a direct service setting. Working knowledge of Raiser's Edge donor management system highly desirable.

Development and Office Management Assistant

This positions' primary responsibility is the processing and acknowledgment of all gifts and donations received by the Women's Lunch Place.

The secondary responsibilities are general office management support including answering of phones, mail pick-up, the ordering of office supplies, and other administrative tasks as needed.

Responsibilities:

*Management of Raiser's Edge database including gift processing and acknowledgement letters and generating of Development reports.
*Process website and credit card donations, matching gifts, and payment of merchandise orders.
*Coordinate the mailing and promotion of annual appeals, special events, newsletters, etc.
*Assist in layout of newsletters and mailings.
*Research Development vendors to ensure competitive bidding for all major purchases/services.
*Document standard operating procedures for data and gift entry, information sharing and report generation.
*Assist accounting department in the reporting and recording of daily deposits, and trips to bank.
*Reconcile development and accounting records in the reporting of income.
*Pick-up and distribution of mail for both the office and the clients.
*Responsible for maintenance for all office equipment and addition of new hires into telephone and computer system; order office supplies.
*General filing and other administrative tasks as needed.
*Work in direct service at shelter: one day a month, one Saturday every 6 weeks, and 2 holidays per year.


Skills:

*Bachelor's degree
*Proficiency with Raiser's Edge or similar fundraising software is highly desirable
*General knowledge of databases
*Comfortable using Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, and Adobe Photoshop applications
*Ability to work in a fast paced environment
*Must be detailed oriented with excellent communication and interpersonal skills required.
